hey actually exist? Are they just a myth created to make plenty of dollars for savvy marketers looking to cash in on the burgeoning pheromone industry?

Believe it or not, research into human pheromones has been going on for several decades. It's long been suspected they have played a role in the day-to-day interaction between humans since the year dot. But despite the ongoing scientific research which has established important evidence that pheromones do impact our lives in certain ways, there is still a long standing debate going on between the believers and the naysayers.

In short, pheromones are described as invisible chemical messengers detected by an organ known as a VNO(Vomeronasal Organ). It's akin to a sixth sense which we use to communicate with each other. The VNO is located in the nose but the amazing thing is detecting pheromones is not about smell.

Why is it you are attracted to some people yet not others? Is it looks, personality, attitude...or could it be human pheromones at play?

Pheromones play a huge role in the animal world. My question to those who doubt their existence in humans is are we not part of the animal kingdom? For example, bees use pheromones as a means of communicating attack signals; spiders attract moths to their lairs by imitating the moth's pheromones; dogs know when there is an opportunity to test their sexual prowess when there is a female on heat in the area.

Pheromone pesticides have also been developed to combat known pests such as fire ants. Fire ants have an aggressive disposition and it's reasoned a pheromone based product can be effective in subduing this aggressiveness.

In the human world, research has indicated the effects menstruating women have on each other when living in the same space for any length of time or the sweat of men having an effect of the amorous kind on women. Is this pheromone related?

Human pheromones are a fascinating subject and the debate will continue to rage until it's established once and for all and set in stone they actually do play a part in our daily lives. Watch this space!
